TILT: Pachyderm Content Authoring with Dr. Katie Whitlock

Mon. April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
Presenter: Dr. Katie Whitlock (THEA)
Place: Meriam Library in Room 27B

As part of the ongoing series of Technology in Learning and Teaching (TILT) presentations, Dr. Katie Whitlock of the CSU Chico Theatre Department will present on her use of the multimedia authoring tool Pachyderm.

Dr. Whitlock says, “So you always wanted to use multimedia but were afraid of the software? Join us for a practical demonstration of the Pachyderm multimedia authoring tool and learn how technology just might be your friend in this instance. See how faculty and students explored the use of this tool in two difference situations with surprising results, one in which the software was used to develop online teaching materials for an existing course, and the other which required the use of the tool by a class of 35 to develop individual multimedia projects.”

According to http://pachyderm.nmc.org/: “Designed for people with little multimedia experience, Pachyderm is accessed through a web browser and is as easy to use as filling out a web form. Authors upload their own media (images, audio clips, and short video segments) and place them into pre-designed templates, which can play video and audio, link to other templates, zoom in on images, and more. Once the templates have been completed and linked together, the presentation is published and can then be downloaded and placed on the author’s website or on a CD or DVD ROM. Authors may also leave their presentations on the Pachyderm server and link directly to them there. The result is an attractive, interactive Flash-based multimedia presentation.”

The presentation will take place in Meriam Library in Room 27B on Mon. April 18 at 1:00 p.m. For more information contact Ann Steckel at X 6780.
