The Real Media (Mole) server will be decommissioned on January 16, 2015 due to unsupported software. We introduced Kaltura as a new streaming media server in fall 2012 (and as a replacement for Mole), and we’ve been working with faculty to migrate onto that platform over time. Given Mole’s end of life, we need to complete the migration of video content off of it. We are requesting that you only move the files you’re actively using since our campus Kaltura license fees are based on the amount of storage that we use.
Here are some migration options:
- Search the Internet to find a publicly available copy of the video and use the weblink tool in Blackboard Learn to link to it (NBCLearn, TED, YouTube or PBS).
- Re-encode the original source DVD/VHS video, and then load it into Kaltura or YouTube:
Please make sure you have copyright clearance on any videos you might upload. For more information on copyright clearance, please contact James Tyler in the Library Research, Teaching & Learning Department (LRTL) at 898-6779.
- Load videos to Kaltura:
There are multiple ways to integrate video in Blackboard Learn. If you have questions about hosting/migrating video or if you require any other assistance, please contact the Technology and Learning Program (TLP) at 898-6167.
