Taking the Fright Out of Accessible Course Design
Oct 31, 11-12:30 MLIB 002

Are you familiar with Universal Design? Are you relying on color to convey important information? Can a screen reader recognize your PDFs? Are your videos captioned for the hard of hearing? Is your course accessible to ALL students?

…Are these questions making you squeamish?

If so, we invite you to a special Halloween Accessibility workshop sponsored by the Technology and Learning Program & the Accessibility Resource Center on Friday, October 31 from 11:00-12:30 in MLIB 002.  Candy provided.

Workshop Objectives
  • Locate and use the accessible syllabus template for your courses.
  • Create accessible PDFs for upload to your course.
  • Design your course with accessibility in mind using concepts for Universal Design.
  • Prioritize captioning when choosing video resources.

All participants are welcome. If you need disability related accommodations please call Jeremy Olguin at 530-898-4863 or send an email to jdolguin@csuchico.edu.

The Real Media “Mole” server will be decommissioned on January 16, 2015

The Real Media (Mole) server will be decommissioned on January 16, 2015 due to unsupported software. We introduced Kaltura as a new streaming media server in fall 2012 (and as a replacement for Mole), and we’ve been working with faculty to migrate onto that platform over time. Given Mole’s end of life, we need to complete the migration of video content off of it. We are requesting that you only move the files you’re actively using since our campus Kaltura license fees are based on the amount of storage that we use.

Here are some migration options:

There are multiple ways to integrate video in Blackboard Learn. If you have questions about hosting/migrating video or if you require any other assistance, please contact the Technology and Learning Program (TLP) at 898-6167.

Textbook Alternatives Project (TAP) 2

Chico’s Affordable Learning Solutions Program Awarded Grant Money for Faculty Participants Willing to Save Students Money on Textbook Replacements

The CSU’s Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) program awarded CSU, Chico’s local Affordable Learning Solutions program (CALS) a grant for $19,750 to expand and further develop the current CALS/TAP program. Applications for the grants are available starting NOW.

This follows the successful completion of CALS first major project, the Textbook Alternatives Project’s (TAP) in the fall of 2013. Eight grants were funded for TAP, and seven of the eight projects provided new, more affordable alternatives to their old textbooks, resulting in an estimated total savings of over $43,600 for just one semester, for our students.

To download an application, visit http://www.csuchico.edu/cals/tap/projects2014.shtml or contact TLP’s Laura Sederberg for more information, 898-4326. This project is being co-sponsored by TLP, CELT, and the Meriam Library.
